If you live in Goa then you know that April and May are the two most hot and humid months. 90% humidity makes everything disgustingly sticky. But if there’s one benefit to this lousy weather it’s that forest birds are buzzing with activity. It’s breeding time for resident birds.

Indian Pitta Goa

The Indian Pitta, one of the most sought after birds among birders is almost impossible to find when my clients are around in the winter. But come summer and Pittas that have been keeping a low profile all through the rest of the year, suddenly start calling all over the place. I have one that calls right behind my house!

Disgustingly many of the Pittas that you will find in Goa hang around in bushes where people without toilets go to defecate. The Pittas don’t feed on human feces directly. But they do love the flies that come for the excrement. Yuck!
