All these shots were taken at a small water body on the Arrosim beach. Since the water body was only ten odd meters from the crashing waves of the sea I imagine it had been created by the sea overflowing into this spot at high tide.
A huge flock of gulls were bathing in it and flying back and forth from the water body to the sea. Initially the birds were quite nervous of me and the whole flock took off as i approached them. I figured that the only way I could get close enough to the birds would be if I let them get acclimatized to my presence.
So I plonked myself in the sand about twenty meters away from the water body and waited for the flock to return. In about ten minutes most of the birds were back. Then, while feigning a disinterest in them, I slowly began moving towards them inching forwards using only my butt and heels! If the birds appeared nervous at any point I froze and restarted only when they started bathing again. Twenty minutes later I was only about six or seven meters away from the closest birds and that’s when the real fun with flight photography began!
